Critic Reviews
James Suckling
96 Points
96 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Restrained and seductive, with a lovely balance of mineral freshness and citrus fruit. The palate is tightly wound, with a saline, mouthwatering mouthfeel and a rounded, textural feel supported by a flinty undertone. Fermented in 60% new French oak, which doesn’t show as it’s so well integrated and fresh. Drink or hold." 10/25
Wine Advocate
96 Points
96 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of Napa's most impressive examples of the variety, Lail's 2022 Georgia Sauvignon Blanc—picked long before Labor Day's scorching heat wave—features crushed stone notes, a subtle fumé character and fruity hints of lime, tangerine and guava. It's medium to full-bodied, plump and expansive on the palate, revealing plenty of texture and length. The vineyard was originally planted by George Yount in 1839, but the current, dry-farmed vines "only" go back to 1988. Planted to Merlot then, it was grafted over to Sauvignon Blanc in 2006–2007." 02/25
Jeb Dunnuck
95 Points
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com: "Coming from a part of the old Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Georgia is all varietal from the Totem Estate Vineyard just outside of Yountville. It's a much more serious white offering beautiful aromatics of ripe melon, pineapple, honeyed flowers, and subtly spicy, musky nuances. These carry to medium-bodied white that has rock-solid concentration, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. While it's brought up in 30-40% new barrels, you wouldn't know it from tasting it." 01/25
Decanter
96 Points
96 Points, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter: "The 2022 Georgia is medium-bodied, with exotic guava and mango fruit alongside bright sea grass and zesty oak spices. Impressively lean and focused, with gripping acid tension, nutty undertones, and wet slate. Layers of stone fruit, brown spices, ginger, and coriander add depth. The complexity is outstanding, with a mouthwatering interplay of ginger, lemon, and saline-mineral acidity. Subtle grassy notes on the nose meld with crushed rock minerality through the finish, creating a wine of remarkable precision and tension. Grapes are sourced entirely from Lail's estate, Totem Vineyard, in Yountville, then fermented and aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Tasted with Robin Lail in early March of 2025 at her home on Howell Mountain. Lail Vineyards is a partnership between fourth-generation vintner Robin Daniel Lail and her daughters, Erin and Shannon. Robin's great-granduncle was Gustave Niebaum, who founded Inglenook in 1879. Her father is John Daniel, Jr., who managed the estate until 1964, when he sold it. Maayan Koschitzky and Philippe Melka craft the Lail wines." 03/25
