Critic Reviews

Jane Anson
97 Points
97 Points, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux: "There is a savoury austerity to this wine, and clear floral aromatics alongside the underbrush, cranberry and crushed raspberry fruits, loaded with orange peel and liqourice. A beautiful expression of Brunello, with high herbal notes, Three years ageing in Stockinger casks (not barrels), then concrete vats for one year, then bottle for one more year before releas. Alessandro Marini director and winemaker. Great history also - when Tenuta Luce was first founded, the joint venture of Mondavi-Frescobaldi decided not to make a Brunello within the Luce range to avoid competition with Castelgiacondo, but when joint venture fiinished in 2004, Laberto Frescobaldi immediately used the single vineyard of Sangiovese owned by Luce to make a Brunello from 2003 vintage. The plot is located in the higher part of the vineyard, at the highest elevation of 450m, where in winter they occasionally see snowfall. This vintage was first released March 2026." 07/26
James Suckling
99 Points
99 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Sweet berry, orange peel, nutmeg and cinnamon aromas. It’s medium-bodied with fine, precise tannins and a very long finish that caresses every inch of your palate. Extremely long and structured but refined and sophisticated. Best after 2027." 12/25
Vinous Media
94 Points
94 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous: "The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Luce entices with a cascade of dried rose petals, mint, sweet smoke and crushed plums. It is a total pleasure on the palate, with soothingly round textures and cooling acidity propelling its lavender-laced wild berry fruits across the senses. The 2021 finishes with excellent length and concentration, balanced and structured, leaving nuances of blackberry and dark chocolate. (Drink between 2029-2040)" 11/25
Wine Spectator
95 Points
95 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "Well-defined aromas and flavors of cherry, raspberry and blackberry highlight this smooth, graceful red. Mineral and wild scrub notes emerge as this gathers steam midpalate. Ends with plenty of energy and freshness. The aftertaste echoes the fruit and savory elements, with just a hint of oak. Best from 2029 through 2047. 275 cases imported." 03/26
