Enologist Carlo Ferrini, best known as a consultant, founded Podere Giodo in 2002 and named it for his parents, Giovanna and Donatello. The Brunello is pure Sangiovese from a six-hectare organic vineyard at 300 meters between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in Montalcino’s southeast. A difficult 2021 cut the crop nearly in half, to about 8,500 bottles against 16,000 the year before, leaving small berries with full ripeness and fresh acidity. Native yeasts carry the fermentation, followed by 30 months in large French oak, a spell in concrete and 18 months in bottle. Raspberry, cherry compote and wild strawberry lead, with warm baking spice unfolding in the glass. The texture is plush and sleek, the acidity lively, and grip builds behind an easygoing first impression. Critics see it at its best from 2027 through 2037. Set it beside porchetta, pappardelle with porcini or grilled lamb chops.

Kerin O`Keefe
96 Points
96 Points, Kerin O'Keefe, KerinOKeefe.com: "The focused and delicious Giodo 2021 Brunello is the best wine I’ve had to date from this estate. It entices with aromas of violet, ripe woodland berry, dark spice and Mediterranean brush. The delicious palate takes over where the nose leaves off, delivering layers of juicy Morello cherry, fine tobacco blend, licorice and blood orange while velvety tannins and fresh acidity provide impeccable balance. Drink 2028–2038. Abv: % Kerin O'Keefe December 2025" 12/25

95 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "This red starts out supple in texture, gaining depth midpalate before ending with a layer of chewy tannins. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, iron and macchia occupy the space between. All of the components are there; this just needs time. Shows excellent balance and freshness. Best from 2029 through 2047." 03/26

99 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "The purity of fruit and elegance are so beautiful, perfumed and ethereal. it’s medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and gorgeous black cherries, blackberries and brambleberries with a hint of cedar. Vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2028 and beyond." 12/25
