Critic Reviews

Jasper Morris
93-95 Points
93-95 Points, Jasper Morris, InsideBurgundy.com: "A gorgeous glowing purple. Heady but balanced and absolutely stunning. Paul Zinetti made up a trial blend using all four cuvees and the press wine, with 50% new wood. He will maybe keep the wine in barrel for a full two years. So completely mouthfilling yet with perfect balance, the tannins are fully ripe, there is the right degree of acidity, and an endlessly long finish. It can cope with its 14.2% alcohol. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024." 11/24

90-93 Points
90-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "A ripe, very fresh and agreeably spicy nose reflects notes of dark cherry, cassis and plenty of warm earth character. The sleek, delicious and vibrant middle weight flavors are not particularly dense, at least not in the context of their usual concentration, all wrapped in a beautifully textured, balanced and impressively long finish that also displays a touch of bitter pit fruit. While certainly a nice wine, this is not destined to be one of the all-time great Clos des Epeneaux, at least not from the perspective of longer-term aging, in fact it should drink reasonably well early on. (Drink starting 2031)" 04/25

17/20 Points
17 Points, Julia Harding, JancisRobinson.com: "Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Sweet oak spice over dark-red fruit. Firm tannins though they are smoothed by the barrel. The dark fruit fills out the marked Pommard structure but it's all in balance for the long term, just not charming now. (JH) (Drink between 2028-2038)" 01/25
Neal Martin
92-94 Points
92-94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2023 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru was tasted as separate lots as well as the final cuvée assembled in proportion. It represents a normal yield of around 34hl/ha and was matured in 50% new oak. The 2023 has a very attractive and well-defined bouquet with pure raspberry, wild strawberry and pressed iris flower. A little fleshier than expected, the palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. It is not the most complex Clos des Epeneaux I have ever tasted, but it boasts tension, structure and a nice touch of sour cherry on the aftertaste. This deserves three or four years in bottle. (Drink between 2029-2050)" 01/25
