Critic Reviews

Decanter
95 Points
95 Points, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter: " This supremely impressive Echézeaux is almost overwhelming with its sweet fruit on the initial attack with plenty of mineral, earthy depth, and a hint of fresh mint. On the palate, the wine is concentrated with grippy, fine-textured tannins balanced by the fresh acidity to deliver an overall impression of complete seamlessness. This wine one of the top Echézeaux produced in 2021. Because the vineyard was protected with candles, there were two more barrels than in 2020 – seven instead of five (of which five were new). (Drink between 2030-2060)" 11/22
Burghound
92-94 Points
92-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "A ripe and extremely fresh nose mixes notes of violet, plum and anise with those of dark pinot fruit and sandalwood. The medium weight plus flavors possess a positively gorgeous texture as it's highly seductive while delivering excellent length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This could use better depth, but the underlying material appears to be up to the take. In a word, lovely. (Drink starting 2033) 01/23
Wine Advocate
91-93 Points
91-93 Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of sweet raspberries and cherries mingled with orange zest, spices, peonies and vine smoke introduce the 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural wine with an enveloping core of cool, vibrant fruit and rich, powdery tannins." 01/23
Neal Martin
92-94 Points
92-94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which was protected by the frost with candles, hence there are seven barrels this year compared to the five barrels of the previous year. Red and black fruit on the nose, graphite coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. The partial whole clusters lend a discrete pepperiness, very nicely focused with sour cherry and clove towards quite a structured finish that will require time to absorb the new oak. Quite serious. Patience required. (Drink between 2026-2046)" 01/23
