Far Mountain Monte Rosso Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 (750ML)

Monte Rosso Vineyard rises to around 1,200 feet on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas, and Far Mountain’s 2023 comes from its west-facing slopes of deep red clay laced with volcanic basalt. The vineyard is CCOF-certified organic, and the wine — 100% Cabernet Sauvignon — is the work of Mai Errazuriz and Rodrigo Soto. Dense black fruit leads, lined with lavender, dark chocolate and baking spice, while a cool mineral streak runs underneath. This is a concentrated, high-impact mountain Cabernet, but a vivid line of acidity lifts it, and it reveals new layers the longer it sits in the glass. At 14% alcohol it carries its power without strain. Critics advise holding it until 2028, after which it should run well into the 2040s. When it is ready, it wants smoky, robust food: slow-smoked brisket, venison loin or a wedge of Stilton.
