Clos St Antonin is a young estate run by the Sabon family of Domaine de la Janasse, and its Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes mostly from sandy soils, the source of its lightness. The 2022 is 100% Grenache, fermented partly with whole clusters and raised in large-format oak. It is a fresher, more perfumed take on the appellation. Raspberry, wild strawberry and cherry fill the nose, followed by dried thyme, white pepper and a breath of mint. On the palate it is silky and fresh, with tannins so fine they almost disappear, and the red fruit stays bright right through a gently peppery finish. This is a Châteauneuf built for pleasure in its youth rather than long cellaring, and critics expect it to drink well through the end of the decade. A fine match for herb-roasted chicken, ratatouille or pepper-crusted seared tuna.

Critic Reviews

Jeb Dunnuck
94 Points
94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com: "The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is beautiful, with ample kirsch and herbes de Provence notes as well as a medium to full-bodied, pure, layered, seamless style on the palate. It has beautiful tannins, a supple, elegant texture, and an outstanding finish. Drink this Provençal, complex, seductive beauty over the coming decade. As always, it’s 100 Grenache (20% whole clusters) brought up almost exclusively in foudre." 10/24

93 Points, Matt Walls, Decanter: "Strawberry and cherry aromas, quite a perfumed style. Good sense of lightness, purity and freshness. With its fine tannins, this is a charming and drinkable style of Châteauneuf with moderate alcohol that will drink well young. Aged half in foudres, half in demi-muids. (Drink between 2024-2030)" 09/23

91 Points, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous: "The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows well, mingling fragrant strawberry, rosewater, licorice and dried herbs on the intricate aromatic profile. Firmly structured and concentrated, this savory red demands at least three more years to fully come together. (Drink between 2027-2038)" 11/24
