Half a hectare of granite plots in the Avía Valley, planted 30 to 50 years ago at 170 to 230 meters, supplies this village red from Adega a Barouta. The plots see a Mediterranean climate tempered by the Atlantic. The 2023 blends 60% Brancellao and 40% Caíño Longo, each fermented separately in stainless steel with 100% whole clusters, native yeasts and no pump-overs, then aged seven months in 10-hectoliter Stockinger oak. It came in at 11% alcohol, and 3,700 bottles were made. Wild strawberry and forest berries lead, laced with cracked pepper, aniseed and resinous herbs, with a smoky, damp-earth note underneath. Medium-bodied and fine-tannined, it stays bright and lively from start to finish. Pour it with roast pork shoulder, mushroom tacos, or chorizo with grilled peppers.

The grapes fermented separately with full clusters and indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in a 1,000-liter oak foudre for seven months. It's super peppery, very spicy, with some notes of dried flowers, resin, pine needles, aromatic herbs and beeswax with a smoky side and hints of graphite. It's elegant and has contained ripeness, with 11% alcohol, and a medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins. 3,700 bottles and 60 magnums produced. It was bottled in November 2024.” 07/25
