Adega a Barouta is the Ribeiro venture of Javier Alen, founder of Viña Mein, and Daniel Landi and Fernando García of Comando G, with Roberto Núñez overseeing vineyards and cellar since 2022. The 2023 Ventoleiro Blanco marks the first vintage of this white: 80% Treixadura and 20% Albariño from granite and schist slopes in the Avía Valley. Native-yeast fermentations ran in a mix of steel, wood, glass and concrete, malolactic was skipped, and the wine had 12 months of élevage before bottling in November 2024, landing at around 11% alcohol. Ripe stone fruit and white blossom open onto a faintly lifted, oxidative edge. The palate is supple and savory, gently textured, with more complexity than its light frame first suggests. Grilled sardines, octopus with paprika and potatoes, or clams steamed in white wine all suit it.

It didn't go through malolactic and has 6.8 grams of acidity and around 11% alcohol. The aim was for a more immediate white, one that doesn't need as much time in bottle. It's almost experimental, as they did different fermentations in different materials, all quite oxidative, and the élevage was 12 months in 500-liter barrels. It has a lot of flavors and is sapid. There's also complexity and depth, and it has a textured mouthfeel with fine granularity. 5,600 bottles and 90 magnums produced. It was bottled in November 2024.” 07/25
