Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Fay Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 (750ML)

Nathan Fay planted this Stags Leap District vineyard in 1961, and today it covers 26.7 hectares of Bale gravelly clay loam and volcanic alluvium. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars ferments the Cabernet Sauvignon entirely in stainless steel, then gives it 21 months in 100% new French oak. The 2023 has real depth yet stays cool-toned rather than heavy. Blue and black fruit sits at the core, threaded with menthol, clove, licorice and graphite, while sagebrush, cured tobacco and a rusty, ferrous note feel rooted in the vineyard. The tannins are fine and fully absorbed into the fruit, and the finish stretches out. Critics expect it to last twenty years or more. At the table, reach for venison loin, peppercorn-crusted steak or grilled portobellos.
