Manincor bled off 15% of the juice before fermenting its 2022 Mason, a 100% Pinot Noir from a four-hectare, south-facing terrace 400 to 450 meters above Lake Kaltern. Small-berried French clones root there among dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite, kept dry by a steady breeze. The estate, founded in 1608 and run by Count Michael Goëss-Enzenberg, is certified biodynamic under Respekt-BIODYN. After an early, warm summer and cool autumn nights, picking came on September 22 at 31 hl/ha. Native yeasts fermented it in open-top wooden vats, with two weeks on the skins and a daily hand punch-down, before 16 months on the fine lees in French barriques, 20% new. Raspberry, cranberry, dark cherry and rose petal lead, touched with liquorice, eucalyptus and black pepper, over supple tannin and a lively, rock-edged finish. It is at home with seared salmon, trout wrapped in speck or a board of mountain cheeses.

Wine Enthusiast
94 Points
94 Points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of concentrated and ripe red berries with a hint of candied sweetness dominate the nose, with a lift from a touch of spice. Lush and round, the palate reveals layers of cherry, raspberry and red plum with fine tannins providing a guardrail. There's a lot going on here, making this a serious, well-crafted wine that promises depth and refinement. Drink now–2035." 03/25
James Suckling
93 Points
93 Points, Aldo Fiordelli, JamesSuckling.com: "A complex pinot noir where the toasted aroma of graphite dominate. Better on the palate, with red fruit and green pepper notes. Elegant and medium-bodied, with crisp acidity and good length. Juicy and balanced. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold." 09/24
