From the certified organic, four-generation Saurel family at Domaine Saint-Damien, the 2017 Gigondas Les Souteyrades Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines) hails from the appellation's prized limestone and clay soils, yielding intensely flavored fruit. This Grenache-dominant blend offers alluring aromas of ripe black raspberries, kirsch, and nuanced notes of dried herbs and spice. The full-bodied palate is seamlessly textured with fine tannins, impressive concentration, and a long, elegant, mineral-laced finish. Jeb Dunnuck awarded this excellent vintage 96 points, noting its "charming, elegant" style. Pair this with slow-roasted leg of lamb, pan-seared duck breast with a fig and red wine reduction, aged Comté cheese or a hearty mushroom and lentil shepherd's pie.

Wine Advocate
95 Points
95 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2017 Gigondas les Souteyrades-from a clay-based, north-facing site-is rich and earthy, with cinnamon and cola notes accenting dark plums and black cherries. It's full-bodied and velvety, adding hints of chocolate on the long finish." 8/19

93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com: Black cherries, garrigue, leather, and a kiss of spice emerge from the 2017 Gigondas Les Souteyrades, which is Grenache and Mourvèdre brought up in foudre. It's medium to full-bodied, has light tannins, beautiful balance, and a charming, elegant style. As with the other releases here in 2017, it's a seamless, layered, complex wine that relies more on elegance and complexity than overt power and richness."
