Domaine Roy & Fils builds this estate-grown Pinot Noir from two of its vineyards in two AVAs: Quartz Acorn in Yamhill-Carlton and Iron Filbert in the Dundee Hills. In 2023 a cold, wet spring delayed budbreak, then warm, sunny weather brought a strong fruit set with little mildew. Ample soil moisture carried the vines through summer heat spikes, picking started early on September 6, and late-September rain wrapped harvest up on the 28th. The wine aged 10 months on its lees in French oak, just 10% of it new. Violet and a hint of lavender lead into cherry, raspberry and strawberry, with darker dried cherry and clove underneath. The palate is round and supple, the tannins soft, and lively acidity leaves a tart, perfumed finish. Critics suggest drinking it through 2030. Pour it beside cedar-plank salmon, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
