Comando G began in 2008, when childhood friends Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia, trained at Bodegas Jimenez-Landi and Bodega Marañones respectively, set out to buy and lease the best high-altitude Garnacha sites they could find in the Sierra de Gredos. Las Iruelas comes from a single plot of head-pruned, 70-to-75-year-old vines at roughly 1,000 meters, farmed in conversion to organic, on quartz-bearing soils the pair count as their most complex. Hand-picked whole clusters ferment on native yeast in open vats with pigeage and a two-month maceration, then age 16 months between 500L French oak barrels and concrete tanks of 7, 12 and 14 HL. This is the weightier, darker-toned side of Gredos Garnacha: a lifted floral perfume, taut red fruit and a firm, stony line. Roast quail, wild mushroom rice and grilled lamb chops all suit it.

98 Points, Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2023 Las Iruelas was marked by a hailstorm in April. It has a paler color (like 2012 and 2017) and a more fragile profile. It comes in at 14% alcohol, a full 1% less than the 2022, and it has very good freshness and reflects the cooler year, with herbal green chili pepper, capers, pine needles, a sensation of Mediterranean forest floor, dry yellow flowers and a core of decayed flowers, with hints of wild strawberries and a peppery twist. It's super fine-boned and mineral and has lots of finesse, with chalky, powdery tannins and a supple, almost salty finish. It's very complete, a notch above Las Umbrías, with finesse and an ethereal character but with lots of energy and oomph. Together with Rumbo al Norte, it's the more homogenous vineyard, showing less differences in quality from year to year. 2,752 bottles produced. It was bottled in March/April 2025." 12/25
