Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Raunate Mocali 2019 (750ML)

Raunate holds Mocali’s oldest vines, on a slope of 300 to 400 meters in the Tavernelle zone southwest of Montalcino, over marly limestone, alberese and iron-rich red silt. Third-generation winemaker Tiziano Ciacci ferments the Sangiovese in French oak vats, then ages it a year in 350- to 400-liter tonneaux and two more in large casks; roughly 2,000 bottles of the 2019 were made. That season was close to ideal in southern Tuscany, moderate throughout with neither drought stress nor heat spikes, and the wine pairs ripe concentration with lively acidity. The nose is dark and brooding, with blackberry, cedar, sage, tobacco, clove and a wisp of smoke. The palate is plush and supple, edged with cocoa, before a firm, powerful finish. Critics suggest leaving it until about 2028. Open it alongside oxtail ragù, roast duck with plums, or a truffled risotto.
