Critic Reviews
Wine Spectator
96 Points
96 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator: "This is dense and full of cherry, raspberry, earth, iron and tobacco flavors. A broad base of sinewy tannins lends support, while the lively acidity drives the long aftertaste of red fruit. All of the components are there; this just needs time. Best from 2029 through 2047. 10,830 cases made, 2,992 cases imported." 06/26
Decanter
94 Points
94 Points, Michaela Morris, Decanter: "Winemaker Bernardino Sani estimates a 30% loss due to frost in 2021, saying that this concentrated everything – acid, tannins and flavours. To temper and harmonise this Brunello, he gave it six months longer in wood than the past few vintages. While still shy just after bottling, it was exploding with rose, mint blossom, pepper and rosemary a few months later. Round in shape yet light and bright on its feet, the flavours are full and pure. Raspberry, juicy plum and nectarine intertwine with those sweet herbs, while smooth tannins caress. Deliciously mouthstaining." 11/25
Wine Advocate
93 Points
93 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With more than 500 years of documented winemaking history (with a villa and cellars dating back to 1580), Argiano is one of the oldest and most important estates in Montalcino. The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino shows consistency and a velvety texture with blackberry and blackcurrant. There is good freshness here, and the wine is a rather lean in terms of mouthfeel. This is a more accessible wine, with a release of 130,000 bottles." 01/26
Vinous Media
94+ Points
94+ Points, Eric Guido, Vinous: "The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is dark and intense, with a smoldering bouquet of ashen stones, grilled herbs and dried black cherries. It is surprisingly energetic and lifted in feel, with racy red berry fruits and rosy inner florals that form a truly satisfying experience. The 2021 is pleasantly chewy and long, leaving a coating of fine-grained tannins and a nuance of tart blackberry." 11/25
James Suckling
94 Points
94 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Aromas of cherries, orange blossom and white cedar with a hint of juniper follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a bright, polished finish. Linear and tight. Lovely length. Succulent and satisfying with a crisp finish. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2027." 12/25
