Biserno Tenuta di Biserno 2023 (750ML)

Picking for the 2023 Biserno began with Merlot in the last days of August, moved to Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc around mid-September and closed with Cabernet Sauvignon before the month ended, always in the coolest hours of the day. A mild winter and spring gave way to frequent rain in May and early June, banking water in the soil for a dry summer. The vines grow on part clay, part Bolgheri conglomerate. Plots are fermented separately in steel, malolactic runs partly in barrique, and the wine spends about 16 months in mostly new French oak. The fruit is more forward this year: deep ruby, with balsamic and Mediterranean notes, pepper, nutmeg and a wisp of smoke over silky tannins and a long, harmonious finish. Set it beside roast lamb shoulder, grilled porcini or duck breast with cherries.
