Sagebrush and dark cherry come first in Amici's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by blackberry, currant, a sappy herbal streak and a floral, woodland note. The fruit comes mainly from Oakville, Rutherford and Oak Knoll, and the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon-led, rounded out with Merlot, Malbec and Petite Sirah. It aged in French oak, 55% of it new. The palate is medium-bodied, round and generous, with well-integrated acidity keeping the ripe fruit fresh and focused, and the tannins are smooth with a gentle grip at the edges. Critics see it drinking nicely now and well into the 2030s. Bring it out for smoked brisket, eggplant parmigiana or a burger topped with aged cheddar.
