Barolo Albe G.D. Vajra 2022 (750ML)

Albe is Italian for sunrises, a name G.D. Vajra ties to the early light over the high Barolo vineyards blended here, set between 380 and 480 meters and facing south-southeast to southwest. Aldo Vajra took up organic farming as a student in 1971, and the vineyards are certified organic. The 2022 season started dry, escaped the spring hail and turned warm from early June; a cooler September framed the pick, which for Albe ran September 23 to October 12 in a year of low yields. The 100% Nebbiolo fruit was sorted three times, macerated for an average of 36 days in vertical tini and aged 22 months in large Slavonian casks. It is translucent garnet and lightly built, with rose, sour cherry, orange peel, cedar and juniper leading to wild strawberry, fine tannins and a long, mineral finish. Try it with vitello tonnato, roast rabbit or a mushroom tart.
