Brunello di Montalcino Pretto Giodo 2021 (750ML)

Rather than buy more land, Carlo Ferrini and his daughter Bianca cut the output of Giodo's flagship Brunello roughly in half to create Pretto, a new middle tier between that wine and the estate's new Rosso. The fruit is made alongside Giodo's other Brunello plots, and the Pretto lots are chosen in the cellar rather than the vineyard. Bianca's generation was the audience in mind: a Brunello meant to give pleasure young without losing its Montalcino identity. The 2021 opens on dark raspberry, violet, cedar and a hint of lavender, with mandarin and herbs behind. The palate is juicy and taut, with tangy acidity, ripe red and blue fruit, fine tannins and a citrus snap at the end. Critics suggest drinking it from 2026. Serve it with roast quail, mushroom ragù over polenta or a board of salumi.
