In 1979 Marisol Bueno and Javier Mareque bought a 16th-century country estate in Meis, in the Val do Salnés, and went on to help found the Rías Baixas DO a decade later. Pazo de Señorans now farms 18.5 hectares around its cellar, adding fruit from long-term grower contracts in neighboring villages. The Albariño, from vines 10 to 50 years old on sandy, decomposed-granite soils near the sea, is pergola-trained and picked by hand into small crates. Each parcel ferments separately in temperature-controlled steel, malolactic is blocked to keep the fruit primary, and the wine rests on its lees with regular bâtonnage before an early bottling. The 2023 shows orange blossom, grapefruit and herbs, then a dry, tightly wound palate with real texture and 13% alcohol giving it shape. Critics see it drinking well into the early 2030s. Try it with ceviche, Vietnamese spring rolls or grilled prawns.

94 Points
94 Points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous: "The 2023 Albariño Pazo de Señorans from Val do Salnés showcases intense aromas of orange blossom, herbs and grapefruit. The palate is dry, taut and textured with medium concentration expanding the fruit flavors. The 13% alcohol adds volume and definition. This complex and expressive Albariño offers excellent drinkability." 03/25
