A great Pomerol from Guillaume Thienpont, this has lovely floral notes and aromas of truffle. It's broad and expansive on the palate, almost velvety, but then has a slight chalky bite at the end and some saline, mineral notes. Really intense and delicious. Château Guillot-Clauzel is a Pomerol estate from the winemaker behind Le Pin and Vieux Château Certan, that is currently sold at a fraction of the price. The estate is tiny, 6 acres sitting on a South facing slope just a few hundred yards from Le Pin itself. Its vines are planted on gravel and clay, including a section of old Merlot vines planted on the blue clay for which the appellation is famous.

Critic Reviews

Antonio Galloni
93 Points
93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2021 Guillot-Clauzel turned out beautifully. It shows terrific depth and tons of character, with no hard edges and fine balance. The oak, once an issue here, is impeccably integrated, but the 2021 also has surprising complexity. Black cherry, plum, lavender, licorice and spice fill out the layers. Guillot-Clauzel remains a rather stocky Pomerol, but the progress here in recent years has been remarkable. (Drink between 2029-2051)" 02/24

95 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Beautiful aromas of plums, chocolate, nutmeg and hazelnuts follow through to a medium to full body, with firm and silky tannins that are persistent and refined. Racy. Though it’s already impressive, give this a couple of years to come together. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink after 2026." 04/24

94 Points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter: "Perfumed nose, something mineral about the scent, stoney with lots of cherry aromas. Smooth and alive, a nice upfront brightness to this - shiny but sleek. Crunchy fruit, clean but this has texture too and a real mineral undertone. You can feel the tension, it's straight and well defined, to the point, long and piercing. A very good wine that’s interesting and characterful. Nuanced with tomato leaf and spiced accents around the sides. A clean and easy to enjoy wine made by Guillaume Thienpont. (Drink between 2026-2045)" 12/23
