Critic Reviews
Wine Spectator
100 Points
100 Points, Wine Spectator: "This is still just a baby, offering currant and berries, with dried flowers that turn to subtle cedar and dried fruits. Structured and full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and supersilky texture. This is so tight and powerful, but still backward. The palate builds and builds, with amazing tannins. A little chewy, this needs years still. You can drink it of course, but a waste now. -- '89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009). 25,000 cases made."
Decanter
97 Points
97 Points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter: "(Château Margaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaux, Bordeaux, France, Red) The texture stands out straight away - smooth and light but direct with a thrilling vibrancy still to the flavours and acidity in this wine. Sour cherry, salted caramel, a touch of balsamic strawberry, still with remarkable concentration. Fresh, bright and linear with a graphite and wet stone touch at the end putting you back in the Médoc on gravel terroir. 5% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. (Drink between 2022-2035)" 06/22
Wine Advocate
95 Points
95 Points, Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Garnet core with thin tawny rim. A very lifted, perfumed, cedary nose with a touch of peppermint. You can still feel the warmth from the summer with a faint hint of prune. The palate is delectable: medium-bodied, very fine tannins, a savoury meaty edge, very harmonious with that peppermint tincture coming through again on the finish. Chateau Margaux mimicking Pauillac. Very fine, surfeit finesse and character, a Margaux that begs to be imbibed rather than analysed. Drink now-2020+ Tasted March 2008."
