Two Hermitage lieux-dits, Les Murets and L’Ermite, supply the fruit for Guigal’s Ex Voto Blanc, from parcels the family acquired in 2001 and vines now around a hundred years old. The house, founded by Etienne Guigal in 1946 and run today by his son Marcel and grandson Philippe, bottles Ex Voto only in exceptional years. The 2022 is 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne, raised for 24 months in new French oak. Marcel Guigal likens his sun-drenched 2022s to the 1982s, and the warmth shows here as depth rather than heaviness: quince paste, beeswax and orange flower on the nose, then a broad, concentrated palate held in focus by a stony line that runs through the finish. Critics see it drinking well from 2025 through 2045. Serve it with butter-poached lobster, roast guinea fowl with morels, or aged Comté.
