The number on the label counts harvests: 246 marks Louis Roederer's 246th, and this release is built on a 2021 base that makes up 55% of the blend. Facing a difficult base year, chef de caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon raised the Chardonnay to 54%, well above the usual 44%, alongside 35% Pinot Noir, largely from the Montagne de Reims, and 11% Meunier. Another 30% comes from a perpetual reserve reaching back to 2012, drawn mostly from Cumières, Vertus and Verzy, plus 10% young-vine wine from Cristal plots aged in cask. About 30% of lots went through malolactic, 24% fermented in oak, and dosage is 7 grams per liter. Lemon curd, pear and white blossom lead into a saline, slate-edged palate with a fine, persistent bead and brisk acidity. Serve it with oysters, shrimp tempura or warm gougères.

Critic Reviews
Antonio Galloni
91 Points
91 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The NV Brut Collection 246 is positively stellar. It’s a terrific example of where Roederer is going with this cuvée stylistically. Brisk saline notes cut through a core of orchard fruit, mint, white pepper and slate. There are no hard angles or awkward contours. The 246 is based on 2021, an extremely tricky vintage for Champagne. Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon bumped up the percentage of Chardonnay considerably and focused on Pinots from the Montagne de Reims. About 30% of the lots underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the edges. Twenty-four percent of the wines were fermented in oak, the rest in tank. The 246 is a blend of 55% base 2021 vintage wines described above, plus 30% perpetual reserve going back to 2012 (mostly from Cumières, Vertus and Verzy) in tank and 10% young-vine juice from Cristal plots aged in cask. The final blend is 54% Chardonnay (as opposed to the more typical 44%), 35% Pinot Noir and 11% Meunier. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. More importantly, the 246 is impeccably done and absolutely delicious. (Drink between 2025-2035)" 09/25

92 Points
92 Points, Helena Nicklin, Decanter: "Roederer’s multi-vintage, multi-regional blend is named for its 246th harvest and that experience is notable here. Subtly complex, this elegant Champagne combines delicately balanced notes of apple blossom, spiced pear, citrus peel and brioche with a lightly chalky mouthfeel. (Drink between 2025-2045)" 09/25

93+ Points
93+ Points, Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com: "The NV Champagne Collection 246 is fantastic and has refreshing nerve, with more citrus, pure lemon curd, white grapefruit, and white peach. Medium-bodied, it floats through the palate, with a refined mousse and fantastic fresh acidity." 12/25
