Tour St Christophe came in at 35 hl/ha in 2021, from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The élevage split vessels: barrels, 40% of them new, plus foudres for 20% of the wine. The vintage produced a somewhat less lavish version than the estate sometimes makes, with acidity pushed to the front. Blackberry and cassis lead a deep, dark nose, with ripe cherry, licorice, leather, cocoa and tobacco behind, plus a floral note. The attack is juicy and bright, with a streak of fresh red berry, and the tannins are ripe beneath gentle herbal notes and a touch of vanilla and cinnamon. It drinks well now, and critical opinion has it holding through the late 2030s. Good partners: grilled Toulouse sausages, pork chops with fennel, or a platter of charcuterie.

Decanter
92 Points
92 Points, Elin McCoy, Deanter: "Stylish and lively, with a sense of energy, floral aromas, red berry notes and good ageing potential. (Drink between 2025-2039)" 05/24
James Suckling
93 Points
93 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Black cherries, mussels, mineral, chili chocolate and dark olives. Bright and racy on the palate with medium weight in the center palate. The fresh, fine-grained tannins add a sense of heft before a linear, lengthy finish. Drink or hold." 01/24
Antonio Galloni
93 Points
93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2021 Tour Saint Christophe turned out beautifully. Dark, supple and engaging, the 2021 offers up copious dark fruit, leather, licorice, chocolate, spice and tobacco. This ample, heady Saint-Émilion delivers the goods. In this vintage, Tour Saint Christophe is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is not a bad thing at all. It was aged 20% in foudres Tasted two times. (Drink between 2026-2036)" 02/24
