Larmandier-Bernier has been cutting the dosage on Latitude step by step, from 4 grams per liter to 3 and now to 2. The result is an Extra Brut that gets its roundness from ripe Chardonnay rather than from sugar. This release is built on the 2022 base and was disgorged in September 2024. It is all Chardonnay, bright yellow in the glass, with quince and white blossom up front and touches of lychee and tropical fruit behind, plus a note of buttery shortbread. Medium-bodied and gently fruity, it has a soft, fine-grained texture and a delicate bead, and a light floral lift carries through the finish. The ripeness is clear, but the wine never turns heavy. Bring it to the table with scallop crudo, gougères or a platter of nigiri.

The NV (2022) Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude 1er Cru is stellar in this range. Broad and ample, the Latitude is so impressive. Lemon confit, marzipan, tangerine peel, mint and chalk are dialed up. More than anything else, I am so impressed with the wine's sheer palate presence. There's gorgeous density and character here. This release is based on 2022, with the addition of 40% reserve wines. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: September 2024; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.
