From Castillon, Château Joanin Bécot's 2022 blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, picked between 15 and 26 September at 39 hl/ha. Press wine accounts for 12% of the final wine, and aging took place in 50% new barrels. The color is a vivid purple, and the nose is ripe and expressive, with black raspberry, blueberry, blackcurrant and red summer berries under a floral, lightly spiced lift. The palate is smooth yet taut, with graphite and flint notes woven through juicy fruit, ripe tannins and lively acidity. It's approachable young, and critics see it drinking well from the mid-2020s into the early 2040s. Pour it with roast pork belly, lamb merguez, or a board of charcuterie.
