Critic Reviews

Wine Advocate
94 Points
94 Points, Joe Czewinski, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie Smith Vineyard comes across as a bit more taut and restrained than last year as a barrel sample, with faint herbal notes and a hint of vanilla framing tart cherries on the nose. It's medium-bodied, taut, fresh, vibrant and focused, with silky tannins on the lingering finish." 02/25
Decanter
95 Points
95 Points, Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter: "The 2022 Charlie Smith Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, from a site planted initially by Phil Coturri, Moon Mountain's most celebrated grower, features Cabernet Sauvignon clones 8 and 169 grown at 488 metres elevation in the Moon Mountain District. This wine showcases a dark berry fruit character, with layers of cassis, sagebrush, and elegant cedarwood spices. Nuances of walnut husk, conifer, blood orange zest, and dark cacao add depth and intrigue. The tannins are suede-like and superfine, offering a polished texture that supports the wine’s structure. The finish is marked by pressed floral notes and graphite, leaving a lasting impression of balance and refinement. Despite the heat-related challenges of the vintage, this wine delivers impressive structure, integrity, and complexity." 12/24
Antonio Galloni

94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "Dark, layered and effusive, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie Smith Vineyard is superb. A blast of dark cherry, plum, mocha, lavender, dried herbs and licorice are all amplified. Readers will find a Moon Mountain wine with a good bit of hillside structure and savoriness but also softer tannins that make it quite accessible. This has come a long way since last year. (Drink between 2026-2037)" 12/24
