Critic Reviews
Jancis Robinson
16.5++/20 Points
16.5++ Points, Jancis Robinson, JancisRoberinson.com: "Serious wine! Ambitious and sinewy. Definitely worthy of your attention! Still embryonic but Paul Krug has imbued this with real energy. A name to watch, though maybe wait until they are settled in the new Pommard premises. (JR) (Drink between 2032-2046)" 01/25
Vinous Media
91-93 Points
91-93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2023 Pommard Clos de la Commaraine 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet with dark berry fruit, undergrowth and light pencil box scents. This is detailed and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth opening, as hints of dark chocolate and mocha infuse the black fruit. There is a little oak to be assimilated, but the 2023 displays fine depth as a dash of black pepper enhances the finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. (Drink between 2028-2042)" 03/25
Decanter
95 Points
95 Points, Charles Curtis, Decanter: "The 2023 Clos de la Commaraine aromas are deep and rich, with notes of plum and blackberry, hints of earth and leather and a light floral note at the end. The texture is firm, tannic and dense, but not unyielding. The grapes are from a 3.63ha monopole clos. Farming and vinification are done parcel by parcel; the new owners, Denise Dupré and Mark Nunnelly, have hired Paul Krug as régisseur, who has undertaken the work of budding over inferior clonal selections with massal selection from vines planted in 1957." 10/24
Jasper Morris
93-96 Points
93-96 Points, Jasper Morris, JasperMorris.com: "We tasted several component parts, as the blend is only assembled a month before bottling. However, I could sample a trial blend. A rich and even purple. The bouquet is impressive, with the extra structure of Pommard but obviously containing a wealth of fruit. The iron comes through in a minor note. This is dark but not black fruit. We have a long-term keeper here, there is so much to t and the structure has been perfectly judged, the plentiful tannins are very fine, the acidity adds its own useful touch while the fruit continues in serene fashion. Drink from 2032-2038." 10/24
