Critic Reviews
Jasper Morris
94-96 Points
94-96 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: " Pale lemon with a green edge. Drouhin’s 2023 Corton-Charlemagne has an explosive nose, the minerals surrounded by a ripe healthy fruit, some more exotic suggestions without going over the top. A little melon and passion fruit, tendrils of honeysuckle, but it all comes down to earth on the palate with a very long finish." 11/24
Neal Martin
94-96 Points
94-96 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru hails from vines located on the eastern side in the lieu-dit of Les Longuettes. This has a fragrant bouquet with orchard fruit, crushed chalk and white flower notes that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with orange rind and tangerine tones. The vibrant, spicy, lemongrass-laced finish has a seductively waxy texture. This is excellent. (Drink between 2027-2050." 01/25
John Gilman
95 Points
95 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "The Drouhin family’s bottling of Corton-Charlemagne from their own vines is always a superb example, and the 2023 version is absolutely no exception to this general rule! The maison continues to make two separate bottlings of Corton-Charlemagne, with a second made solely from purchased fruit (and which Véronique Drouhin commented has also turned out beautifully in 2023). This bottling is distinguished by the term “propriété de la famille Drouhin” printed right under “Joseph Drouhin” on the front label. The wine’s aromatic constellation is truly exquisite, offering up notes of apple, pear, fresh almond, a complex base of limestone soil tones, lemon peel, white lilies and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully structured out of the blocks, with a rock solid core of pure fruit, great cut and grip and a long, seamlessly balanced and mineral-driven finish. Great juice in the making. 2031-2070." 01/25 #115
Burghound
92-94 Points
92-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Here too there is an admirably discreet application of wood setting off the strikingly fresh aromas of Granny Smith apple, spice, wet stone and a floral top note. The middle weight flavors aren't as concentrated or as powerful as those of the Montrachet but they are even more mineral-driven while displaying similar length on the balanced, youthfully austere and equally compact finale. Very promising." 06/25
Wine Advocate
93-95 Points
93-95 Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opening in the glass with notes of sweet citrus fruits, white flowers and freshly baked bread, the 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine) is full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a deep core of fruit and a long, chalky finish." 01/25
