95-97 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2021 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru was made with 75% whole clusters this year. This is a tangible level up from the Echézeaux with vivacious dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, much more in terms of concentration and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins that frame the pure, very saline fruit. Energetic and animated on the finish. This has serious potential. Superb. There are perfumed fruit aromas of plum and black cherry with a bit of spice and some pleasant mineral notes – the initial impression is one of great elegance, and with time in the glass the wine reveals a depth of flavour and length that are truly rewarding. The half-hectare site between Echézeaux and the Clos de Vougeot is pretty protected, and frost damage was limited – they produced more wine in 2021 than in 2020. 92-95 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "An exuberantly spicy yet cool and restrained nose reflects notes of Asian-style tea, violet, black cherry and a deft application of wood. The richer, bigger and more powerful flavors possess even better concentration with slightly better complexity as well that emerges on the balanced and lingering finale where a touch of oak can be found. This is built to repay extended keeping yet there is so much sap that it should be reasonably approachable after 5-ish years. (Drink starting 2033)" 01/23
