The delicate bouquet offers aromas of black fruits, followed by subtle woody and spicy notes. The attack is generous, full, and structured with ample tannins. The balance is rich, harmonious, and taut, with mineral notes. It lingers lazily on the palate with a sleek finish. A wine with great ageing potential and very precise. Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is one of the second wines of the property. Created since the 2012 vintage, it has a pure and direct character. The grapes which make up this wine's blend come primarily from gravelly plots of land near the Gironde estuary, a good environment for Cabernet-Sauvignon. Les Griffons offers a vigorous and fresh tasting experience, full-bodied and clean, overflowing with energy.

Critic Reviews
Neal Martin
93-95 Points
93-95 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2022 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron represents 22% of the production and is matured in 40% new oak. It has a very focused bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed violet and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sculpted tannins, very tensile, intense yet weightless toward the long graphite-infused finish. This is just superb." 4/23
James Suckling
92-93 Points
92-93 Points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com: "Refined and pretty aromas and flavors of currants and blackberries on both the nose and palate. Medium body. Fine tannins and a fresh finish. 50% merlot, 46% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot." 04/23
Antonio Galloni
92-94 Points
92-94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2022 Les Grifons de Pichon Baron is super-impressive. Silky, medium in body and gracious, the 2022 is incredibly charming. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are beautifully delineated. This classy Pauillac is showing very well today. The Grifons is a serious second wine that will benefit from a few years of cellaring." 4/23
Wine Advocate
90-92 Points
90-92 Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is the more serious of the estate's two second wines, with Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot dominating the blend. Revealing aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with powdery tannins and a more structured profile than Les Tourelles." 4/23
Jeb Dunnuck
94-96 Points
94-96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com: “A solid step up over the Les Tourelles, the 2022 Les Griffons De Pichon Baron is also Merlot-dominated and checks in as 50% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot that will spend 18 months in 40% new French oak. Gorgeously pure cassis, smoked earth, graphite, tobacco, and crushed stone define the aromatics, and it's full-bodied, with a layer, concentrated mid-palate, fine tannins, and a great finish. The purity and precision here are truly something.” 4/23
