Critic Reviews

Wine Advocate
92+ Points
92+ Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The latest rendition of Egly's emblematic NV Brut Grand Cru is based on the 2016 vintage, and it was disgorged in spring 2021 with only one gram per liter dosage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, wheat toast and citrus oil mingled with hints of white flowers and praline, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with tangy acids, terrific mid-palate amplitude and an enlivening pinpoint mousse. The wine's structure and ultra-low dosage mean that this is quite a tightly wound young wine, and it will merit at least a year or two on cork if readers can muster the necessary patience." 09/21

91 Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar: "The current release of Egly-Ouriet “Grand Cru” non-vintage Brut is composed of fruit from the villages of Ambonnay (ninety percent), Bouzy and Verzenay. It was aged for fifty-two months sur latte and disgorged in November of 2018, so this is from the base year of 2013. The cépages is seventy percent pinot noir and thirty percent chardonnay, with the vins clairs barrel fermented and aged in older casks, without undergoing malolactic fermentation. The wine offers up a fine and nicely maturing bouquet of peach, apple, hazelnut, warm biscuits, a good base of soil and a touch of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied and shows of plenty of mid-palate depth, with good soil signature, pinpoint bubbles and very good length and grip on the complex finish. This was finished with a dosage of three grams per liter. Good juice." #83 10/19

93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru (2017) base is rich, creamy and wonderfully expressive. Dark red plum, spice, coffee, cedar, dried flowers and a kick of toastiness wrap around the palate. The Grand Cru offers notable depth and tons of unbridled class. I would give this a year or two in bottle. It is a stellar NV offering. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: September, 2022." 11/22

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com: "Based on 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, the NV Grand Cru Brut has a killer nose of baked apple, crushed citrus, toasted spice, and brioche. This carries to a richer, layered, powerful Champagne with depth, density, and length. I’d be happy to drink bottles any time over the coming decade." 11/20
