Zarate Albarino Rias Baixas 2018 (750ML)
93 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Zip, zam, zing. It's the return of our "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay" wine. That is what this electrifying wine is all about - zip, purity, minerality, and sea air and it continues once again with the 2018 release. The wine once again captures its coastal origins and granite based soils adding layers of depth and minerality to an explosive core of citrus and ocean spray. It is a special value treat from the great patriarch of the region, as the entry level cuvée is sourced from 35-year-old vines in eleven different vineyards and aged in stainless steel. This organic wine is all about freshness, and the Bodega's signature notes of lime, meyer lemon, citrus flowers, and minerality are present here, accented by ripe pear, herbs, a touch of lemon grass, and fleur de sel. It is a wine that possesses enough concentration and substance that to make it an easy summer crowd pleaser, but the standout here is the crisp, dryness of the wine with its streak of acidity. We are talking more finesse and precision here than our other favorite Albariño from the region DO Ferreiro. This is another a classic match for seafood. Again, production is limited, just 2,500 cases and very little arrives into the US. We find the 2018 slightly fuller. Let the wine breath as it opens up and is absolutely exciting to drink, these are transporting wines - a true vacation in a glass and summer refreshment."
