Monastrell

Native to Spain, but commonly known as Mourvèdre in Southern France, Monastrell grows abundantly in the vineyards of the Iberian Peninsula. One of Zachys' favorite varietals for the spice it lends to a Syrah and Grenache blend (otherwise known as 'GSM'), this grape thrives in warm and sunny regions along the Mediterranean, Southern Rhône and the Paso Robles region, among others. On its own, Monastrell makes a powerful red, and is even used for its color and intensity in Spanish rosés.
