Nuits St Georges Chaignots Georges Mugneret-Gibourg 2014 (750ML)

This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood with its cooler and even spicier combination of red current, cassis and pretty violet scents. The utterly delicious and more mineral-inflected middle weight flavors possess good underlying tension before culminating in a refined if slightly firmer finale that displays a discreet touch of youthful austerity. The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots, matured in 50% new oak, has a charming bouquet with vibrant red cherries and orange sorbet notes, already so full of life and generous. The palate is crisp on the entry, tensile and focused, not a huge depth here but lively and full of nervosité. I think it will fill out a little by the time of bottling and settle at the top of my banded score...89-91 WA 12/15
