A prodigious succession of mild weather, humidity, heat, and sunshine characterize the 2014 vintage. The Indian summer helped promote perfect ripeness of the grapes. This Saint-Julien displays an intense garnet color with purple highlights. Upon aeration, the nose reveals subtle, delicious fragrances of black cherry, blackberry, and delicate, well-integrated oak. A hint of licorice brings an enticing note of freshness. The attack is lively, plump and mouth filling. Beautifully balanced, the tannins are fine-grained. Aromas of black fruit and delicate oak persist on the harmonious finish. An exquisite, refined Saint-Julien. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot & 3% Cabernet Franc.

Antonio Galloni Notes

95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: ""The 2014 Leoville Poyferre is gorgeous. Dark, sumptuous and ample on the palate, it possesses remarkable depth. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, scorched earth, licorice and menthol all flesh out as this radiant, deeply expressive wine shows off its considerable pedigree. The 2014 is going to need time to fully come together, but it is super-impressive. Tasted two times."" 2/17

Neal Martin Notes

95 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: “The 2014 Leoville-Poyferre is one of the standout Left Bank wines of the vintage. Demonstrating outstanding clarity and freshness on the nose, this seems to just "leap" out of the glass like an over-excited Yorkshire terrier. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, silky smooth in texture, a perfect line of acidity and a harmonious finish that slips down the throat. This is going to be irresistible for the next 20 years. Tasted at the Leoville-Poyferre vertical at the château with Sara Lecompte Cuvelier.” 06/21

James Suckling Notes

"94 Points, James Suckling: ""A ripe, generous and substantial wine for this appellation with some real concentration, a solid core of ripe tannins and enough acidity to carry the long, savory finish. Needs four to five years to show its true potential. A beauty. Try in 2022."" 2/17"
