Vinous Media
95 Points, Joel B. Payne, Vinous: "Light golden amber. Exotic bouquet blends passion fruit, mango, poached pear, honey and chamomile with a lash of baking spices. Sappy, palate-coating orchard fruit flavors are given a bitter edge by a hint of citrus pith. Very rich but surprisingly taut, finishing strong thrust and lingering spiciness. This is a beautiful interpretation of late-harvest chenin blanc from a classic vintage." 12/14
Wine Spectator
94 Points, Wine Spectator: "Full-bodied, with sweet earth, truffle, graham cracker, honey and spice aromas and flavors. Also shows matchstick and apple flavors. Long, sweet finish ripples with acidity. Shows more flash and power now from its sweetness. Minerality should develop with time. Drink now through 2020. 789 cases made." 07/05
John Gilman
97 Points, John Gilman, Views from The Cellar: "Picking a favorite between the 2005 and 2002 Clos du Bourg Premier Trie will be one of the delights for the next generation, provided this generation is thoughtful enough to leave some of each behind so that the question can be answered properly when the wines are thirty or forty years of age. Rest assured that they will both be considered amongst the greatest ever produced at this estate. The 2002 Clos du Bourg Premier Trie is a magical wine, that jumps from the glass in a blend of apple, lemon, pear, bee pollen, acacia blossoms, great minerality, and a bit of youthful chalk dust in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, long and just brilliantly balanced, with outstanding mid-palate depth, precise focus, and a brilliantly racy and endless finish. Perhaps the 2005 possesses just a hair more intensity than the 2002 Clos du Bourg Premier Trie, but it is hard not to bet on the absolutely flawless balance of this wine. Magical juice. " 12/07
