Volnay Taillepieds Marquis d'Angerville 2017 (1.5L)
91-93+ Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds exhibits brooding aromas of plums, cherries, dark chocolate, grilled meat and pungent soil tones, making for one of wilder bouquets in the cellar this year. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and chewy, with broad structural shoulders that are more typical of Taillepieds than they are of the 2017 vintage, defined by tangy acids and fine-grained but rich tannins. This may well be the wine that demands the greatest patience this year." 01/19
92-94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The 2017 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru has perhaps the most "airy" bouquet, it is very transparent at the moment, but the palate is much tighter and backward. There is good backbone here, but it is sulking and it is probably one of the Domaine’s wines that will require the longest bottle age. It has an almost Pommard-like austerity towards the finish. Excellent but one of the more challenging wines from the domaine." 10/18
96 Points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter: "Living up to Taillepieds' reputation as one of Volnay's very best premiers crus, this old-vine cuvée from a steep 1.05ha parcel on white clay and limestone soils is a revelation. Amazingly fresh and vibrant, it's a Pinot lover's Pinot Noir, with the texture, brightness and sense of wonder that make Burgundy so special." 10/18
91-94 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: "Clear intense noble purple. The fruit also is heightened. A touch of new oak shows. The cooler hillside looks good. This has the quintessential elegance of Volnay in a fresher style, with a linear core of intensity, purple fruit alpine strawberry and raspberry." 11/18
