91 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: "The usual blend of Les Taillepieds and Clos des Chêne, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru has a more savory bouquet than the Auxey-Duresses, hints of dried blood mingling with the iron filings that infuse the red and black fruit. The palate is the most saline of the three reds that I tasted, delivering firm grip toward the finish. Maybe a little chewy at the moment; it just need 4–5 years in bottle." 10/20

93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Here the even spicier and more elegant nose displays beautifully pure various red and dark berries where a very pretty floral top note appears. While there is only average density the refined and equally pure medium weight flavors possess ample power and minerality on the firm, serious and indisputably built-to-age finish. This youthfully austere effort is excellent though note well that patience is absolutely recommended." 04/20

90 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: "Dark crimson purple, with a rich powerful nose, still with a feeling of freshness alongside which there are some bruised peach notes infiltrating the deep rich raspberry fruit, and perhaps some cooked cherries (according to Raphaël). There are some tannins present too. Overall, a sturdy but fine Volnay." 02/21
