97-99 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-black colored 2019 Trotanoy slowly emerges from the glass with mystic notes of incense, iron ore, woodsmoke, black truffles and fragrant earth, giving way to a powerful core of ripe black plums, black cherry compote and mulberries with hints of graphite, crushed rocks and moss plus an enchanting waft of iris. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a heart-thumping interplay between profoundly rich black fruit and an incredible array of mineral and floral sparks, supported by firm-yet-approachable ripe, rounded tannins and tons of freshness, finishing on a persistent ferrous note. Just magic." 6/20
97 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2019 Trotanoy is powerful and brooding, and yet it is also less forbidding at this stage than most vintages. The feeling is one of breadth and gravitas, as black fruit, gravel, smoke, tar and incense lend distinctly sepia-toned inflections throughout. Trotanoy needs time, as it always does, but the 2019 should start drinking well on the earlier side, in relative terms, of course." 02/22
James Suckling
98 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com: "Aromas of peanut brittle, blackberries, crushed stones, violets and blueberries. Full-bodied and powerful with layers of creamy, velvety and juicy tannins. A classic Trotanoy with true character of itself. Wonderful length and character. Best after 2027." 01/22
Decanter
98 Points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter: "Ripe and expressive on the nose, with a serious perfumed edge that stands out. Quite floral in fact. Powerful and well built, this has muscles and walls of tannin but they're so smooth and velvety, supporting the fruit and giving an excellent frame to the palate. Certainly a masculine style, it's dark and brooding with lots of mint, liquorice and stone. Textured and taught. It's all muscle at the moment, almost chewy but so cool and refreshing. I love the intensity and the precision from start to finish. Incredible." 03/22
Other
97-100 Points, Jeb Dunnuck: "I suspect a perfect wine in the making, the 2019 Chateau Trotanoy is almost all Merlot (there is normally a splash of Cabernet Franc) coming from a 7-hectare vineyard on dark clay and slightly gravelly soils. Its dense purple color is followed by a heavenly bouquet of crème de cassis, earthy black cherries, unsmoked tobacco, graphite, and chocolate. This massively endowed, powerful Pomerol has loads of glycerin and opulence yet still shows incredible purity, finesse, and gorgeous length. It's one of the most prodigious wines in the vintage and will be accessible with just 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise in cooler cellars for 40 years or more. Having the chance to compare the 2018 and 2019 over the coming of decades will be one of the greatest vinous experiences out there!" 6/20
