93 Points; John Gilman; View From the Cellar: " I often try to taste at Domaines Roumier and Mugnier on the same afternoon each winter; as it is a short commute; and it is great fun to compare and contrast the les Cras here with Monsieur Mugnier’s les Fuées (by the way; if someone is looking for a good theme for a Burgundy tasting; this would be a great side by side vertical). This year; my visits at the two estates were more than a week apart; so I had to try to imagine how they would stack up. The 2013 Domaine Roumier les Cras is a beautiful wine in the making; offering up a nascently complex bouquet of black cherries; dark berries; bitter chocolate; woodsmoke; gamebirds and a gloriously complex base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure; full-bodied and deep at the core; with excellent focus and grip; fine-grained tannins and a long; soil-driven and youthful finish. This is quite similar in aromatic and flavor profile to the 1993 les Cras out of the blocks; though cut in a more elegant personality in this more recent vintage. A superb wine." 12/14. . 92 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghoud: "Reduction flattens the nose and I would strongly recommend decanting this for 30 minutes or so if you're tempted to try a bottle before the wine matures. The natural elegance and class of Les Cras is immediately evident in the mouth however the textured; intense and sleekly powerful flavors simply ooze minerality that continues onto the beautifully long; balanced and refreshing finale. This strikingly pretty if moderately austere effort should amply repay 10 to 12 years of cellaring." 01/15. . 91-93 Points; Neal Martin; Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Cras has a very reticent; broody bouquet that does not want to come out to play. The palate is vibrant and focused with wonderful chalky tannins; citric acidity and a long; lightly spiced finish that fans out with vim and vigor. This should be very satisfying once in bottle; although I wager that it will deserve more cellaring than Roumier’s other 2013s." 12/14. . 91+ Points; Stephen Tanzer; Vinous: "Good dark red. Enticing high-pitched perfume of red berries; flowers and minerals. Juicy; spicy and sharply delineated; delivering a lovely combination of energy and ripeness to its purple fruit and mineral flavors. A distinctly vibrant wine with terrific flavor intensity if a bit less power than the Combottes. But I prefer this more mineral style of Chambolle." 3/16

90 Points; John Gilman; View From the Cellar: " The 2013 Chambolle villages from Christophe Roumier is another very lovely bottle in the making; wafting from the glass in a youthful blend of black cherries; sweet dark berries; cocoa; lovely soil tones; woodsmoke and again; just a bit of pepper. On the palate the wine is full-bodied; tight and very long and transparent; with a fine core of fruit; suave tannins and excellent bounce and nascent complexity on the long and serious finish. Fine juice." 12/14. . 89 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound: "Here the expressive nose is attractively elegant with its red berry fruit profile that is nuanced by floral elements and traces of earth and green tea. The silk-textured and vibrant medium weight flavors are very Chambolle in style before terminating in a lingering and firm finish that is slightly clipped at present. This will need 6 to 8 years to further flesh out ad my score offers the benefit of the doubt that it will do so." 1/16. . 89 Points; Stephen Tanzer; Vinous: "Good full red. High-toned aromas of red raspberry and peppery spices. Juicy; spicy and precise; boasting a tight core of purple fruits and minerals and noteworthy inner-mouth tension. This classy village wine finishes with a cool minty nuance." 3/16

"This is a great young vintage of Roumier Ruchottes; as the wine shows off great depth of sappy fruit; superb transparency and a very suave structural chassis that will carry it far into the future in style. The stunning nose jumps from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries; plums; cocoa; chalky soil tones; a hint of almond; vanillin oak and a pungent topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is deep; full-bodied and very pure on the attack; with a sappy core; finegrained tannins and stunning elegance and focus on the very long and very soil-driven finish. A great; great young Ruchottes...95" John Gilman; View from the Cellar; Issue #60. . "Moderate reduction renders the nose impossible to assess. Otherwise there is good intensity and freshness to the muscular and more mineral-driven medium weight plus flavors that terminate in a distinctly austere if hugely long finish. This is noticeably less evolved than any of the prior wines and is clearly going to require extended cellaring...92-94" BH 01/16. . "The 2014 Ruchottes Chambertin Grand Cru was just a little reduced on the nose and took some time to open up. The palate is crisp and firm in the mouth; quite masculine and strict. For me; I would have liked a little more flesh to come through on the finish. Certainly this does not stack up to the Ruchotte from Mugneret-Gibourg or Rousseau that I tasted; and it seems to be overawed by the delectable Charmes-Chambertin. Perhaps just enduring a dull patch? Let's see how this shows once in bottle...90-92?" WA 12/15
