  1. Gevrey Chambertin Duroche 2013 (750ML)

    Gevrey Chambertin Duroche 2013 (750ML)

    • SKU #396860

John Gilman; View From the Cellar: "There are several different bottlings of Gevrey AC in the Duroché cellars; with the straight Gevrey villages cuvée offering up a quite reserved and red fruity nose of cherries; red plums; coffee; soil and a touch of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is medium-full and quite pure on the attack; with a good core of fruit and nice soil signature; but (currently?) a bit of oak tannin poking out on the backend and giving the wine a certain edginess to its finish. This was only raised in ten percent new wood; but I suspect that these are from one of those spicier oak tonneliers such as Demptos or Taransaud ( cannot remember now who Monsieur Duroché is using); as the wood seems quite spicy in profile for only ten percent. The wine will need a few years to absorb its wood; and I am not really sure right now how well it will do this; but if the backend wood tannins ameliorate; the wine will deserve a score at the top end of this range." 4/15. . Allen Meadows; Burghound: " Background nuances of earth and humus can be found on the more deeply pitched red and dark currant aromas that display ample sauvage character. Here too there is a lovely sense of purity to the detailed and attractively energetic medium weight flavors that possess relatively fine-grained tannins on the mildly austere finish." 1/15

    • SKU #420773

Allen Meadows; Burghound: "Here too there is a discreet touch of wood setting off the equally fresh but more complex aromas of red currant; newly turned earth and soft sauvage nuances. There is good if not exceptional volume and mid-palate concentration to the refreshing and vibrant middle weight flavors that also display a subtle touch of warmth on the otherwise well-balanced finish." 1/17

Gevrey Chambertin Les Champeaux Duroche 2013 (750ML)

    • SKU #396672

"...complexity and a sense of elegance to the slightly earthy aromas of both red and blue pinot fruit scents. There is plenty of punch and really lovely detail to the mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess an even more refined mouth feel; all wrapped in a balanced; saline and impressively long finish. The tannins are firm without being hard or. austere...90-92." BH 1/15.

  6. Gevrey Chambertin Le Clos Duroche 2013 (750ML)

Gevrey Chambertin Le Clos Duroche 2013 (750ML)

    • SKU #396861

Allen Meadows; Burghound: "Like the Bourgogne the nose is very bright and fresh with subtle earth and underbrush notes adding interest to the mostly red berry fruit aromas. I very much like the texture of the delicious and restrained medium-bodied flavors that also possess a relatively refined mid-palate before concluding in a robust; austere and serious finale. This will need a few years of bottle age to round out and become a bit more civilized. Note that while this is qualitatively similar to the Champ the palate impression is very different." 1/15. . John Gilman; View From the Cellar: "The lieu à dit of le Clos is located over by the church in Gevrey; across from Domaine Rousseau and next to Pierre Duroché’s grandmother’s house (which I went to first; instead of the domaine; for my appointment). This sees a touch more new wood; but still only fifteen percent of the casks are new. The wine is far more black fruity in personality than the first two Gevrey villages bottlings; wafting from the glass in a blend of black cherries; a touch of cassis; coffee bean; dark soil tones; a smoky topnote and a bit of spicy wood. On the palate the wine is fullish; nascently complex and nicely reserved in personality; with a good core; ripe fruit tannins and a bit of oak tannin still poking out on the long and youthful finish. Again; if the wood can be absorbed fully here; this will merit a score at the top of the range." 4/15
