96 Points; James Suckling: "This wine has always been soft and delicious; with an almost decadent character of strawberry tart; earth; meat and spices. It’s full and very soft; with refined tannins and a very long finish." 4/14. . 95+ Points; Robert Parker; The Wine Advocate: "I found this to be one of the more backward wines of the 2000 vintage and gave it a window of maturity of 2015-2040 when I reviewed it in 2003. In my two recent tastings of it; I changed that window to 2018-2050; which probably says more than the following tasting note could say. This is a behemoth – dense; highly extracted; very tannic; broodingly backward; with a dense purple color and very little evolution since it was bottled 8 years ago. Wonderfully sweet cedar and fruitcake notes are intermixed with hints of creme de cassis; licorice; and earthy forest floor. It is full-bodied and tannic; with everything in place; but like so many wines that come from Leoville Barton; it makes a mockery of many modern-day consumers wanting a wine for immediate gratification. Those who bought it should continue to exercise patience and be proud to own a wonderful classic with five decades of longevity ahead of it." 6/10 #189. . 96 Points; Wine Spectator: "Hello. Take textbook St.-Julien warmed fig; blueberry compote and blackberry reduction notes along with ample graphite; bramble and tobacco flavors; then dial it up a notch. This has terrific energy to offset the admirable depth and length; and hasn't even started a second phase yet. One of the stars of the vintage.—2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Best from 2018 through 2033" Web Only - 2016. . 94 Points; Stephen Tanzer; Vinous: "Full medium ruby. Knockout superripe nose combines black cherry; licorice and exotic spices. Compellingly sweet; lush and complete; with harmonious acids giving the wine lovely vinosity and extending the flavors. Finishes with lush; dusty tannins and superb persistence. A great vintage for Leoville-Barton." 5/03

96-99 Points; Wine Spectator: "This packs some serious punch and drive; with a terrific core of blueberry; açai and plum reduction notes; backed by waves of graphite and roasted apple wood. Has the pleasantly chewy feel typical of St.-Julien; along with an extra-racy graphite edge." 4/17.. . 95-96 Points; James Suckling: " Tight and chewy with a solid tannin structure and depth of fruit. Full body and lots of depth and texture. A Barton with lots happening already. Develops beautifully on the palate. Should be better than the 2015." 4/17. . 93-96 Points; Antonio Galloni; Vinous: "The 2016 Léoville-Barton is superb. Precision; nuance and delineation are the signatures in a wine that speaks to class above all else. Eloquent and nuanced to the core; the 2016 is simply magnificent. There is a fair bit of tannin; but the grain is very; very fine. The 2016 is not a huge Léoville-Barton; but it is a wine of nobility and pedigree. Tasted two times." 4/17. . 93-95 Points; Neal Martin; Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...It has a more intense bouquet compared to the Langoa-Barton; plenty of intense blackberry and raspberry fruit; minerals; cedar and a hint of licorice. The palate is a little chewy on the entry with good grip in the mouth. This demonstrates the backbone of the finish; just the right amount of spiciness with excellent salinity on the long finish. It is not a once-in-a-lifetime Leoville Barton; but (as usual) it just seems to do everything right. Maybe it's not quite up there with the stellar 2015 Léoville Barton; which I re-tasted at the time; but it is not far off." 4/17 #230

94-96 Points; Neal Martin; Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Leoville Barton is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot picked between 19-22 September and 28 September until 5 October for the Merlot and Cabernet respectively. Matured in 60% new oak; it has a more compelling and intense bouquet than the 2015 Langoa Barton at this early stage; whereas in other years I have found the siblings closer together. It delivers some lovely blackberry; sage and cigar box scents. The palate is very refined with edgy tannin; beautifully balanced with seamlessly integrated oak. It is the classic Léoville-Barton style; full of energy and showing more breeding than the Langoa on the finish. This is just an outstanding; classic; drop-dead gorgeous Léoville Barton that is destined to give immense pleasure over the coming years. Bravo Anthony; Lilian et al." 4/16 #224 . . 93-96 Points; Antonio Galloni; Vinous: "The 2015 Léoville-Barton is superb. Vivid and wonderfully nuanced in the glass; the 2015 offers exceptional purity in its aromas and flavors. As always; the house style favors finesse over pure power; but in 2015 there is a good bit of both. Graphite; pencil shavings and crème de cassis; herbs and mocha meld into a rich; textured; beautifully persistent finish. The tannins are there; but they are nearly buried. Léoville-Barton is not the most powerful or showy Saint-Julien in 2015; but it is class personified. Don't miss it. Tasted two times." 4/16.. . 94-95 Points; James Suckling: " A very savory and fruity red with red currant and plum aromas and flavors. Full body; firm backbone of tannins and a fresh finish. A generous and fruity young red. Fruity forward in a reserved way." 4/16.. . 92-95 Points; James Molesworth; Wine Spectator:"Gutsy; with mouthfilling blackberry and black currant compote flavors buttressed with very lively bramble and licorice notes. There's loads of grip; but this is velvety in feel." Web Only 2016.
