94 Points; James Suckling: "Aromas of dried berries; strawberries; smoke and hints of mushroom. Medium to full body; firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Subtle and order. Why wait? Drink now." 2/17. . 91 Points; Kerin O’Keefe; Wine Enthusiast: "This opens with subdued; earthy aromas suggesting used leather; grilled sage; Mediterranean scrub and mature berry. On the hearty; monolithic palate; a pronounced licorice note and alcoholic warmth underscore the mature black cherry and clove flavors. Assertive tannins provide a tight framework. Drink 2020–2027." 4/17.. . 90 Points; Monica Larner; Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: " Capanna is known for is textbook interpretations of Sangiovese. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a dark and luscious appearance with pretty ruby intensity. The bouquet ushers forth a delicate medley of aromas including wild cherry; cassis; balsam herb and toasted almond. This vintage shows crisp lines and lightweight consistency. Like many of the other wines from this vintage; I'd suggest a near-term drinking window for Capanna's Brunello." 3/17; Issue #229.. . 90 Points; Ian d’Agata; Vinous: "Dark ruby-red. Woodsy underbrush and dark berries complicated by tar and smoke on the nose. Then dense; rich and juicy; with very ripe dark cherry and berry fruit flavors and chewy; youthfully chunky tannins. Finishes medium-long and with a trace of alcoholic heat. I normally like Capanna’s Brunellos; that though never monsters of concentration; have a remarkable knack for ageing very gracefully and well; and though this is extremely well made and will no doubt have lots of fans; I found it to be a rather darkly fruity wine that is not my favorite style of Brunello." 3/17.

91 Points, Zachys Buying Team: “Capanna is a quite possibly one of the most under the radar estates of Montalcino, yet hold some of the most prized vineyard sites in all of region. If you have ever met Patrizio Cencioni (owner and former Consorzio di Brunello president) you would understand why. He is a man of few words, but when you taste his wines, no words are necessary for what are some of the most beautiful expressions for Brunello and Rosso. Located at the on Montalcino’s legendary Montosoli hill, in the northern section of Montalcino, the wines of Capana are traditionally styled sangiovese, that respects its terroir, microclimate and varietal characteristics. The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is quite simply superb, and is what Rosso di Montalcino should be and more. On the nose it offers a bouquet of ripe berries, plum, cherry blossoms and a hint of rose petals, which carry through on palate with an added elements of cinnamon and vanilla bean. With velvety tannins and bright acidity, there is great structure and elegance here to allow this wine to age for a few years. Kudos to Patrizio for making a beautiful traditional styled 2015 Rosso! We tasted this wine twice, upon opening and then a few hours later and it only got better with aeration. We highly recommend decanting this Rosso for at least one hour before serving. Enjoy with pasta, grilled meats, roast chicken and Prosciutto San Daniele and assorted cheeses.”
