93-96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2017 Sassicaia is dark, sensual and rich, which is a good thing, as the tannins - the result of a warm, dry year in which phenolic ripening was difficult to fully reach - are also quite powerful. I tasted the 2017 from an approximate blend from barrel, where the wines are still aging in separate lots. It will be interesting to see where things end up once the wine is in bottle." 03/20
James Suckling
96 Points, James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com: The balance and beauty to this is impressive, offering sweet, ripe currants and flowers with some crushed-stone and dry-earth undertones. Full-bodied with soft, polished tannins and a long, creamy-textured finish. It's polished, yet concentrated. Better after 2022, but already very seductive."05/20

97 Points, Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast:[Cellar Selection] "Aromas of exotic spice, baked plum and French oak mingle with camphor and blue flower on the nose. This boasts extraordinary elegance and freshness despite the hot vintage, delivering flavors of juicy Marasca cherry, spiced blueberry, tobacco and licorice. Velvety, fine-grained tannins provide support while coffee and crushed mint linger on the finish. Drink 2022-2032." 07/20
International Wine Reviews
96 Points, J. D'Angelo, International Wine Report: "The 2017 Sassicaia is a remarkable showing from this challenging vintage that experienced high temperatures and drought for most of the growing season. Despite the challenges set-forth by mother nature, the team at Tenuta San Guido has managed to produce an exceptional wine, through strict grape selection to eliminate impurities, and experienced decision making in both the vineyard and cellar. The final blend is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, which was sourced from the estates higher elevations plots situated about 1,100 feet above sea level, which received more relief from the hot daytime temperatures. As far as the wine itself, it begins with an aromatic profile of blackberries, cherries and hints of dark plum, which are laced with forest herbs, earthy minerals, fresh cut florals and spices, which all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied and beautifully structured with polished tannins resulting in a gorgeous mouthfeel. It continues to impress with its notable concentration and overall balance leading up to the gorgeous finish. The wine spent 24 months in French oak barriques (one third new wood and the rest, first and second passage). The 2017 is nothing short of a total success and should not be overlooked. While appears this will be accessible earlier than most recent vintages, it also has plenty of aging potential and should go on to offer a drinking window that could span nearly two decades. " 1/20
