Zachys

93+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: "Tasted three times. This is one of the best inside tips we can provide, as this is a packaged Premier Cru delivered from the prized Grosses Gewächs, or Grand Cru vineyard of Reiterpfad, under $33. It is another one of those ZIP-ZAM-ZING wines that has us happily singing "zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay". That is what this electrifying wine is all about - zip, purity of fruit and minerality. It is a wine, and a producer, that delivers the same breathe of excitement that we share for the likes of Zarate, Vatan, Ente and Raveneau and with the estate's 2017s, this is the most exciting white we have tasted this year. From the prized Grand Cru vineyard of Reiterpfad, a gentle, southeast-facing slope surrounded by sandstone walls, comes this aromatic white with vibrant pure, ripe fruit (lemon, grapefruit, white peach, pear), white pepper, oyster shells, sea salt, and a stony minerality reminiscent of 1er cru Chablis. As the wine warms, it gains in texture and adds more exotic fruit nuances to the flavor spectrum. The finish is mind-bendingly elegant and simply echoes across the palate. Production is limited, and very little arrives into the US."

92 Points, David Schildknecht, Vinous: "Smoky peppercorn, piquant peach kernel, nose-wrinkling ginger, boxwood and lemon peel as well as a toasty hint of oak make for a formidably forceful and complex nose. Happily, all of those aggressive notes are accompanied on a firm but subtly oily palate by juicy peach flesh and bright Meyer lemon. The finish activates the salivary glands and leaves the palate tingling and glowing in its evocation of salt, pepper, raw ginger and peach kernel. This ball of energy should prove fascinating to follow." 3/19
