Wine Advocate
92 Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unfurling in the glass with aromas of wheat toast, crisp green orchard fruit, white peach and subtle hints of nutmeg, as well as a touch of youthful struck match, Sauzet's 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne is medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with a lively but envelopingly textural profile, excellent concentration and tension at the core, and a long, delicately chalky finish. This saw a very judicious 25% new wood and is shaping up to be one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I've tasted." 11/19
John Gilman
91+ Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: "The 2017 Sauzet Clos de la Garenne, like all of the premier crus in the cellar here this year, is impressively reserved in personality and racy in structural profile and will age beautifully. The youthfully complex nose delivers scents of apple, yellow fruit, chalky soil tones, white flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely solid at the core, with racy acids, excellent focus and backend mineral drive and a long, promising and vibrant finish. A lovely bottle- just add some time in the cellar to blossom properly! 2022-2055." 12/18
Decanter
94 Points, Tim Atkin, Decanter: "La Garenne is one of Puligny's smaller and less well known premiers crus, located on the slope up to Blagny. It makes wines that generally have plenty of bite and acidity, and this example is a case in point, showing a hint of stony reduction, some vanilla spice and a core of chalky minerality. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028." 10/18
