The 2019 is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, made under technical director Jean-René Matignon at a Second Growth owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987. A cool, damp spring turned hot and dry from late June; mid-véraison fell on August 4 and 5, and late-September rain hastened the harvest, with Cabernet picked from September 30 to October 11. After 18 to 23 days of maceration, the wine spent 18 months in barrel, 80% of them new. The heat shows as richness: dark fruit framed by cedar, tobacco, licorice and bitter chocolate, a dense, fleshy palate, ripe tannins with real grip and a long, spiced finish.
